Shawn Cowie, Shane Westerfield, and Jeff Lane led the winner’s circle this past weekend during the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Northwest Division event at Pacific Raceways presented by Les Schwab Tires.
 
Chris Demke, Tujunga, Calif., gained a good starting line advantage but was unable to hold on as the hard charging Cowie, Surrey, B.C., cruised passed the Californian driver in the final round of Top Alcohol Dragster for the divisional event win. Cowie registered a victory pass of 5.247 seconds, 276.01 mph, Demke 5.448 seconds, 271.19 mph.
 
The Top Alcohol Funny Car final round featured a duel between two California standouts; Steve Gasparelli of West Covina and Westerfield of Anaheim. Westerfield took the lead from the start and pushed his Camaro down the strip for the Wally trophy. Westerfield crossed the finish line at 5.559 seconds, 266.53 mph, Gasparelli runner-upped at 5.569 seconds, 262.64 mph.
 
2016 event champion, Lane defeated Ralph Van Paepeghem, Garden Valley, Idaho, by a narrow margin to successfully defend title in Comp Eliminator at Pacific Raceways. The local victor out of North Bend hit a winning stride of 7.910 seconds, 168.03 mph for his fifth win of the season.
 
Seattle Top Sportsman runner Robert Strohm took a strong start and powered his Mustang to victory; as Jake Neibauer, Billings, Mont., broke out attempting to chop down his lead in JBS Top Sportsman final round.
 
In the Rig Rentals Top Dragster final round, Paul Nero, Eugene, Ore., triggered a great reaction time of .008 second and grabbed the hole shot win over Kyle Seipel, Pleasanton, Calif. Seipel nearly doubled up taking home top honors in the Super Comp Shootout final round.
 
Local Sportsman Motorcycle rider Dan Partridge of Kennewick gave up the starting line advantage to Don DePeel, Gladstone, Ore., but ran closer to his dial-in for the big win in the final round.
