SKILLMAN, GRAHAM LEAD NHRA FINALS SPORTSMAN QUALIFYING ON THURSDAY



The beginning of the end for the 2017 season began with Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series qualifying at the NHRA Auto Club Finals in Pomona, Ca.

Two eliminators completed three sessions on Thursday, with Ray Skillman (Super Stock) and B.J. Graham (Stock) head into Friday's final eliminations as No. 1 seeds. 

Skillman's Factory Super Stock/D Mustang stopped the timers at 8.736 seconds, -1.164 under the 9.90 index. 

Graham, a class winner and No. 1 qualifier at the NHRA U.S. Nationals, ran a 13.164 elapsed time, -1.236 under the T/Stock Automatic index. 

 

 

The Top Alcohol divisions closed out the day with their lone session. 

Bill Litton, driving a Randy Meyer-prepared injected-nitro dragster, jumped out early amongst the dragsters with a 5.211, 280.14 blast. 

Annie Whiteley was the leader of the Funny Cars with a 5.439, 272.61.

Comp Eliminator was led by Alan Ellis, who drove A/Altered Plantetary 23 'T to a 6.511 elapsed time, -0.719 under his index.
