WADE WHITE POCKETS 100K IN BYRON FIRECRACKER NATIONALS

As with much of the motorsports world, Byron Dragway's Firecracker Bracket Nationals was in a state of flux. Then Illinois moved into Phase 4 of its pandemic response, which allows competitive racing with limited spectator attendance. As a result the 21st edition the longest running, and one of the richest bracket races in the U.S. came off as scheduled on June 26-28

Typically a three day event, with $100,000 to win on Saturday, and $30,000 each on Friday and Sunday, Mother Nature altered those plans slightly by raining out Friday's competition before it could start. As a result, Saturday was run as planned, and Friday's prize money would be rolled into Sunday's event.

Limited to 128 Dragsters and 128 Door Cars, the entry list included several touring professionals and hungry regional racers. With one round of bye backs, this would mean nine rounds of racing on Saturday. With post-storm weather conditions already bright, hot and humid when time trials got underway. This would be a challenging day for human and machine.  "This race is a marathon, not a sprint." cautioned Byron Dragway General Manager Randy Simpson. "Pace yourselves accordingly!"

SFG PROMOTIONS OPENS DIALOGUE ON ILLEGAL DEVICES IN BIG MONEY BRACKET RACING

SFG Promotions is getting out ahead of the talk focusing on illegal devices used as a performance advantage in big bucks bracket racing.

“It is no secret that in the last four4 years, thanks in large part to the innovation of SFG, payouts at big money bracket races have skyrocketed,” SFG said in a prepared statement. Let there be no confusion; we are proud of this and proud to have paid out over $7,000,000 to thousands of racers in our short history.

“Unfortunately, with these record-breaking payouts comes an increased reason for racers to utilize illegal devices to gain a competitive advantage. To be clear, we firmly believe that 99% of our great customers play by the rules, but we recognize that in any sport there will always be a few bad apples that try to ruin the fun for everyone else.

SHAWDER, ROLES TAKE HOME FINAL DAY TITLES IN MUTT & JEFF

For the sixth year in a row, Paul Burruss and Dylan Griffey will be staging their Mutt & Jeff Promotions Race this year at Beaver Springs Dragway in central Pennsylvania. It began some years ago as a joke in relation to the long-running comic strip characters. The two mismatched gamblers, not unlike the comic strip pair, have been gambling with the race which highlights high dollar bracket racing.

From its original home in Maryland, the pair last year moved the race north to Beaver Springs Dragway. “Each year we’ve tried to give our customers, who are also many of our friends, a great experience,” said Burruss. “We’ve had a good relationship with Beaver Springs’s owner Mike McCracken, who is now into his third year as owner of the facility and he’s been making a lot of improvements. We worked with Mike last year and it was a rousing success. As such, it made no sense to move the race anywhere else.”
