COMP ROOKIE RACING FOR A CAUSE

Comp Eliminator rookie Charles Myers is set to introduce rock band Godsmack’s charity, The Scars Foundation, to NHRA drag racing at the NHRA Carolina Nationals at zMAX Dragway. The foundation aims to raise awareness about mental health issues in motorsports.

“It’s super important to me that we were able to partner with somebody like The Scars Foundation because, at the end of the day, racers, crew members, fans all have that same experience,” Myers said. “We go through extreme highs and extreme lows in drag racing. Things happen in a matter of seconds, and it’s important that we have those tools to learn how to cope with these things and to make us all better. Drag racing is both physical and mental, and sometimes I think the mental game is a bigger part of it than most realize. This is important to me because I’ve taken a big step back from racing to take care of my mental health, and I think mental health in racing is something that really needs to be addressed.”

MODIFIED PRODUCTION ALIVE AND WELL IN THIS CAROLINA-BASED SERIES

Robbie Draughon has a thing for drag cars with history – and he can’t get enough of them.

To that end, a 2019 NHRA national-event winner in Super Stock and his wife, Tabitha, are cranking up a new series this weekend at Rockingham (NC) Dragway. That’s when the Carolina Classic Modified Production circuit makes its debut as part of a big weekend at the track. In addition to the CCMP portion of the show Saturday, a pair of $10,000-to-win races are on tap in the 25th annual Big John Memorial Bracket Weekend, and the Carolina Class Racers Association competitors will take part in their own program Saturday and Sunday.

“We talked about it over the winter a bunch,” Robbie said, “and it kind of happened right there at the beginning of the season. That’s why we’re starting late, so people could get their cars together to do it.

A STOREY-BOOK FINISH: NHRA DRAG RACER DOUBLES UP FOR FIRST TWO CAREER WINS

NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series driver Jay Storey achieved a feat recently that doesn’t happen often or easily in the sport of drag racing. He won the first two Wallys of his career within mere moments of one another at the Division 5 doubleheader points meet at Heartland Motorsports Park in Topeka, Kan.

Competing in both Stock Eliminator and Super Stock in a pair of gorgeous white COPO Camaros, Storey got his storybook ending after defeating a wide array of talented drivers in both categories. His wins came after early exits in both categories during the first half of the doubleheader. With redemption on his mind, Storey was ready to win, mainly because he recently had a runner-up finish in Denver.

LAMB KEEPS RACKING UP THE ACCOLADES

Justin Lamb, a five-time Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series champion, continues to defy the odds and extend his historic winning streak. With back-to-back victories during NHRA's Western Swing, Lamb has secured at least one national event win every season since 2012.

Lamb's remarkable streak was further solidified with wins at the Flav-R-Pac NHRA Northwest Nationals in Seattle and the Sonoma Nationals. At the Pacific Raceways in Seattle, Lamb drove his RAD Torque Systems Chevrolet COPO Camaro to claim his 30th career win and seventh in Stock Eliminator. He followed this up with a win in Sonoma, piloting his trusty Silver State Plumbing Chevrolet Cobalt to his 16th Super Stock victory.

Interestingly, Lamb's 12-year streak of national event wins is only surpassed by Funny Car champion Ron Capps, who stretched his series of yearly victories to 15 earlier this summer in Bristol.
