STORYTELLERS - RICHARD THARP TELLS THE STORY OF THE ARTFUL DODGER

There's only one Richard Tharp, the original drag racing party animal. Sit back and listen to the story of the day the Feds were after Tharp, the driver who made famous the line "A Star I Are, A Saint I Ain't." The authorities followed Tharp to the drag strip, when he tried his best to evade induction into the Army for Vietnam War. He might have won on the drag strip, but this day he didn't win against Uncle Sam.

STORYTELLERS: JIM OBERHOFER TELLS THE STORY OF "CATCH THAT GUY!"

Storytellers is back. The always entertaining series of drag racing's icons telling their stories of days gone by continues in its third season at CompetitionPlusTV.

In this episode, storied crew chief, and storied individual in general, Jim Oberhofer, commonly known as Jim O, tells about a time when he and the boys went out on the town, only to cross paths with this dude who was obviously "jacked up" on something. It's past the statute of limitations so Jim O lets the story flow.

CLASSIC VIDEO: 1985 IHRA STROH'S NATIONALS, DARLINGTON, SC

Travel back in time during the action-filled 1985 season, when the drag racing was filled with excitement.

During this season, the IHRA was a serious player in drag racing when their Winston-sponsorship drew the big names to NASCAR-related venues such as Darlington, SC. This season will forever be remembered as the one when Kenny Bernstein became a championship player, Bruce Allen filled the void left by the loss of Lee Shepherd, and cars such as Dale Pulde's Buick Miller Warrior Funny Car became an attraction.

The Stroh's Nationals was season-ending event on the IHRA tour, and in this episode you will see plenty of Funny Car action, along with the mountain motor Pro Stocks. Don't be surprised if you see some sportsman action as well in this ESPN broadcast.

CLASSIC VIDEO: THE WONDER OF DRAG RACING

wonderA neat look back to drag racing of the early-1970s in the Wonder Bread promo featuring an overall look at NHRA Championship drag Racing. There are plenty of cameos, including the fabulous Wonder Wagon driven by Kelly Brown.

 

 

CLASSIC VIDEO FLASHBACK - '77 NHRA SPRINGNATS SPORTSMAN

Travel back in time when NHRA Sportsman racing scored time on the big stage of television with the Winston professional series broadcasts. The video is from the 1977 NHRA Springnationals in Columbus, Ohio with the primary focus on the sportsman divisions with mentions of the professional classes.

You will see eliminations in Pro Comp, Comp and Modified. There are highlights from Stock and Super Stock as well as the professional finals.

STEVIE "JACKSON" SAYS GOODBYE TO THE SHADOW

 

Stevie "Fast" Jackson knew the unwritten rule and still defied it.

A drag racer is not supposed to get attached to a race car because it can lead to heartbreak.

Jackson, the two-time NHRA Pro Modified champion, iconic drag radial racer, and outspoken doorslammer racer, watched his Shadow 2.0 leave his Georgia-based shop with its new unnamed owner. Shortly afterward, he went over in the corner and shed a tear or five.

CLASSIC VIDEO - 1984 AHRA GRAND AMERICAN SERIES - US 30 DRAGWAY

Travel back in time to the legendary U.S. 30 Drag Strip in Gary, Indiana, once known for its tremendous booked in match race shows. However, this time it's an event with the AHRA's Grand American Series.

The show Superchargers, known for its coverage of the obscure events, tackled this event, covering the Funny Cars and Top Fuelers. The Funny Cars were the stars of the show, like most every event at U.S. 30. However, the Top Fuelers put on a show with the legends.

You'll see plenty of legends in this one hour presentation.
