Long before drag racing fans became accustomed to checking their National Dragster newspapers for the airdate of syndicated Diamond P shows, at least twice a year they could catch championship drag racing in the comfort of their living rooms.

Keith Jackson and Chris Economacki became household names in presenting the straightline thunder on ABC. Eventually the formation of sports channels such as ESPN would lead to the show’s demise in 1998.

With two races to go in the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series Countdown the Top Fuel and Funny Car classes are battling down to the last few points. Nitro Rewind has the inside scoop from race winners and title contenders coming out of the NHRA Arizona Nationals and going into the NHRA Big O Tires Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway this weekend. The show, an internet based broadcast, is hosted by Bill Stephens and features interviews from Top Fuel and Funny Car NHRA competitors, is available after every NHRA national event.

"With the season winding down we are trying to get as many perspectives as we can on Nitro Rewind from the drivers in contention as well as the drivers who may not be in the Countdown but are still having an impact," said Ashley Force Hood, John Force Entertainment president.

This episode Nitro Rewind catches up with the surging Funny Car team of Johnny Gray and his Services Central Dodge. Even though Johnny is not in the Countdown he is making his mark with a strong performance and helping a worthy charity along the way. Funny Car driver Bob Tasca III is looking to make a move over these last two races and the new points leader in Top Fuel, Antron Brown, checked in with Nitro Rewind before his win in Phoenix.

Finally, new Funny Car points leader Jack Beckman talks with Nitro Rewind minutes after his big win in Phoenix and shares is plan of attack to possibly win his first Full Throttle Funny Car championship.
