From the drop of the green flag to the wave of the checkered flag, the plot of Sunday's Pure Michigan 400 from Michigan International Speedway was simple.

Matt Kenseth was dominant.

Kenseth, who started from the pole, led 146 of the race's 200 laps to take home his third victory of the season and the eighth for team owner Joe Gibbs.

Kenseth believes it was obvious his car was best not only on Sunday but throughout the weekend.

"We had, obviously, a dominant car since we got here," Kenseth said. "It showed up in qualifying and Jason had it tuned up today where the handling was great as we had enough speed to stay up there. You never like to see late-race restarts, especially at Daytona and Talladega, and this was almost a cross between that from the restart zone until the middle of 1 and 2, a lot of the guys would draft pretty good, and I had a hard time getting that to happen. The Chevys could lock up pretty good, so I was pretty worried about that last one and Denny gave me a nice push there.

"Our TRD engine ran really good and was able to stay alongside Kevin at least and clear him off of Turn 2, so that was obviously a big key for us."

Kenseth's win was also the first win for Toyota at Michigan, a track which is known for being the hometrack for NASCAR's auto manufacturers.

Toyota Racing Development president and general manager David Wilson believes this is one of the most special victories in Toyota racing's history.

"This is truly a special day," Wilson said. "I remember when Roger (Penske) and his team rolled out this concept of a manufacturer's trophy here in Michigan and thought it was brilliant because obviously this is the home to all the manufacturers, including Toyota.  We have a major technical center in Ann Arbor, so to finally bring it home is really special. We've been coveting this.  It's funny because the first idea we had was, you know what we need to do is after we win it, we need to bring it back to Detroit, biggest auto show in the world, and proudly display it in our space. I've already been in touch with our management team, and they are reserving space for it as we speak."

Kevin Harvick, driving the No. 4 Jimmy John's Chevrolet, led 15 laps and cruised to his ninth runner up finish of the Sprint Cup season. It's also the third consecutive year in which Harvick has finished in second place in this annual race.

Harvick is pleased with his finish because of his early race struggles.

"We had an up and down day, that's for sure," Harvick said. "The first half of the race or so we really struggled with the handling of the car. The guys did a great job of getting that fixed and then we ran out of gas. But we came back and didn't lose a lap, we were able to have a good enough handling car to drive back up through there and have everything go good. I'm just really proud of my team and everything they did.

"We didn't have anything for the No. 20 but for everything we overcame, it was still a good day."

Martin Truex, Jr, notched his seventh top ten finish of his career at Michigan and his seventh top five finish of the 2015 season by taking home third place.

Austin Dillon, who led 19 laps and challenged Kenseth on many occassions, pulled out a fourth place finish; his best finish in Sprint Cup competition.

Dillon, who has championships in both the Xfinity and Camping World Truck Series', was forced to start at the rear of the field but credits his team for getting him up to the front.

"We had some circumstances where we had to start at the back and had to figure out a way to get our track position back, and just got to thank my guys," Dillon said. "(Crew Chief) Slugger (Labbe) and the engineers did a good job coming up with a plan. That first 20 laps was no fun for us because we had to ride around and try and stay in front of the leader, but we saved gas and decided to not come down on that first competition caution for fuel, and it worked out. It showed that our car was fast enough to stay up there, pitted, drove back up to where we needed to be, and man, it was a fun day for us, the Dow car was fast, and I felt like I passed a lot of cars, also, getting into fourth.

"We'll take this and build some more momentum. The last seven weeks have been great for us, and really enjoyed working with Slugger."

Kenseth's Joe Gibbs Racing teammates Denny Hamlin and Carl Edwards finished in fifth and sixth place, respectively.

Joey Logano took home the seventh place finish followed by Ryan Newman, Brad Keselowski and Dale Earnhardt, Jr rounding out the top ten.

Joe Gibbs Racing's Kyle Busch led 10 laps but only managed an 11th place finish.

Kurt Busch, who won the first Michigan race of the season, fought handling issues for most of the race and finished in 20th.
