FEEDBACK FRIDAY – DRAGS, DOLLARS & SENSE: WONDERING WHAT WALLY WOULD THINK

FEEDBACK ARTICLE – DRAGS, DOLLARS & SENSE: WONDERING WHAT WALLY WOULD THINK

I always look forward to Michael's column, and the title and first two paragraphs led me to believe that once again I would be in for a treat.

Sadly I'm left wanting more.

Was it respect for Wally, or fear of Wally?

And just maybe if the competitors "back in the day" stood up to Mr. Parks when his decisions went against their best interests, NHRA Championship Drag Racing wouldn't be facing these difficulties to the degree that it does now. - Bill Swanson

I think you should write a longer commentary so that I know WTH you are talking about! Give us your full and complete thoughts on the matter, not a SKETCH of your thoughts. OK? - Chris Pile

Respect has to be earned.  Wally used to listen to everybody.  Present
management, not so much.  Bill France Jr. was the same.  You would find Wally and Bill mingling with the teams and fans.  Present management, not so much. - Dave Mathers

The NHRA patch used to say something about "safety". That … it's gone. - Chris Dunn

IMO, there are two things here:  1) The fact that none of the major executives, with the exception of Graham Light, have any racing background at NHRA; and 2) this exclusivity thing has cost racing a lot of sponsors.  I didn't agree with everything Wally did, but at least he & his VP's all came from racing.  And making every NHRA sponsor the 'official NHRA yoyo', is a really bad idea, when all the competitors could also be valuable sponsors for various racers. - Pat "Ma" Green
