FEEDBACK FRIDAY – PRO STREET: A PASSED FAD OR ON LIFE SUPPORT?

2-18-08prostreet.jpgFEEDBACK ARTICLE – PRO STREET: A PASSED FAD OR ON LIFE SUPPORT?

I am the 2007 NSCA Pro Street World Champion. I read your article and I have a few comments.  Its evolution-things change. People complained about my automatic and how I could leave on a button. It wasn’t an advantage until I ran 6.40s with it. My car and motor are a 4 year old Top Sportsman equipment that I researched and found a combination that works. We are not a high budget operation by any means and can compete on a national level in Pro Street. The demise of the NSCA is sad. They opened the rules and allowed people to try new ideas. I feel that’s why there finals last year had 15 cars. We are excited that the NMCA has opened their rules and allowed Methanol in. I feel its working, just look at the pre-registered for the opener, hopefully it’s successful because we can race on a National level and hopefully win another championship. - Jarod Wenrick

It became professional.  It was grass roots racing; this is what happens when people start dumping 800 cubic inch motors, twin turbos and tankers of nitrous into a Pro Mod / Pro Stock chassis.  Look at Orlando over the last few years, IHRA pro stockers show up and run.

How does a low budget, family operation compete with that? – CousinDuf

Are you kidding me?  Just look at the Orlando race this year with 60-plus cars, and the Vegas Super Nationals with nearly 40 cars.  Sure, there is such a thing as having too many options in regards to places to run... Sure, the price of gas is slowing things down a bit... but Pro Street being "Dead".  I don't think so.  More like a sleeping giant waiting for the right decisions to be made and to wake up to be bigger and better than ever! - Chad Dailey

The problem is money!

The real old school NMCA used to pay 500-750 to qualify for Pro Street. Yes there were full fields
believe me it wasn't always a gimmie. When the Pro series first started I asked Scott Sparrow why there was no first round money. My response was this was a new fledgling organization and that first round money would come with time. As you might know there is still no qualifying money=rip off. Why would any sane person drag their pro street car all over the country for nothing???

Next no offense but if Vinnie Budano combo can’t be beat why not put weight on him or less for others or more overdrive. No new rules to limit his dominant combo. Any idea how much Steve Quint spent trying to beat those guys with current rules? Cubic inch limit for nitrous now exceeds mountain motor naturally aspirated size of just a few years ago. rulebook used to not allow push type nitrous systems now conveniently they are legal but 29% is max for blower is b.s.

No offense to any team playing within the rules.

The rules suck and there is no money to qualify!

Name another event or race that does not pay the top (used to be) class money to qualify.

Just venting will forward to NMCA site see what they have to say. - Doug Horween
