FEEDBACK FRIDAY – – THE QUALITY OF NITROMETHANE IS SUDDENLY IN QUESTION

FEEDBACK ARTICLE – THE QUALITY OF NITROMETHANE IS SUDDENLY IN QUESTION

We run two Top Fuel cars here in Australia and our supposed 90% [nitro] acts like 94-96% and the parts say it is lean, we are killing pistons and rod bearings like nothing else since we were forced to use this crap. Our car run consistent 4.60's and the odd 4.5 but the parts attrition is getting away from us since this nitro is now the only one available … having discussed this with Kalitta's and others it does not take a rocket scientist to tell us that something is not right and the suppliers are not being up front with us! - Bruce Read

As I recall, some years ago the manufacturer of Nitro in the U.S. had some type of factory fire. The big deal resulting from that was "Chinese" Nitro. You could actually hear the difference in the car at idle. What became of that? - Jim Millard

I just do not get it, but maybe it is just me, and the world gets better and better with each passing week in the world of the sport that we love, that being NHRA Professional Drag Racing. How can the powers that be, over there, seemingly ignore the concerns that of course are not aired on their own website, but yet their own top level teams have no problem saying exactly how they feel on a variety of subjects, on your web site. Are their heads buried in the sand enough to think that no one voices an opinion outside of their own domain or do all those who speak their mind over here think that their rulers do not read every word that is written over here. I know they have a lot on their plate with trying to make things safer and keeping the events full of spectators. But it does not take much to realize that the other hot button topic this year revolves around Nitromethane and the issues that have been brought up. Now we are being told by well respected tuners that they have to run their cars with tune-ups that are more destructive with 90% NITRO then when they were running 85%. And they all agree that there are differences from barrel to barrel and some have even proven it by sending samples to labs. Does the NHRA hold so much power over it's teams that it can just ignore these things and others that seem to come to light every day, or is all well and I just dream about these things and they are just figments of my imagination. - Charles Lamb

The sport of Drag Racing, while being a great value for the investors in Corporate America, has changed forever in just the past 2 years. The hurdles are so high and the on going issues are of such significance that it may be impossible for the sport to recover to some semblance of what it was like prior to 2006. We have lost dear racing friends along the way, and the changes required to make the sport survivable have been present for many years. And now the liquid which fuels the life blood of the sport is in question.  I for one am weary of waiting for the next "shoe" to drop. - David Gutierrez

All the Fuel racers should get together and tell NHRA that until they allow the racers to buy Nitro from whomever they want as long as it meets the spec they will not race....

NHRA is holding these teams hostage and it is time to stop all the B---S--- and get on with racing like it was in the past and the fans loved it. - Bill Bennett
