FEEDBACK FRIDAY – TIM CHARLET: FROM THE GRANDSTANDS

FEEDBACK ARTICLE – TIM CHARLET: FROM THE GRANDSTANDS

I have never sent a comment in on an article in my 49 years on this earth, until now. Tim Charlet is 100% correct in what he is saying. We should all write to the NHRA and ask them to provide 5+ year members a vote on the election of Board Members and Senior Management, as well as a vote on things that effect the current and future direction of the NHRA. I don't want a vote on HOW to slow down the cars, but I DO want a vote on staying at 1000 ft or going back to 1320 ft. Giving the members of the NHRA a vote on is the only way things will change in the right direction.

I was an NHRA member years ago and I decided to renew my membership a couple of years ago. After being a member for a year, I did not renew it again. I did not see any real value in it. Believe me, if in order to have a vote on important issues, I needed to be a Lifetime Member or a 5+ year member like in the NRA, I would renew my membership each and every year.  NHRA membership would double almost overnight!

Tom Compton needs to stop worrying about keeping his job and do what is right to grow this non-profit organization. Giving members the right to vote is the right thing to do. I will be happy to pay for my membership t-shirt if I have a vote. - Kevin Loeffler

Tim you are right on sir. It's time the fan had a voice. After all nhra is a "non-prof-org" or so they claim.

I too am a long time fan, (45 + yrs) of drag racing. Thats a lot of tickets, souvenir, food and drink bought. Yet I (we) have no voice in the direction and decisions made that impact our sport.

I truly hope that you keep up the brave stance you have taken. You are NOT alone.

I look forward to your next entry. - Paul Sapienza

I think if that first article you wrote is what we have to look forward to in "From the Grandstands" then I can't wait to read more. I think that was a great way to start a series, and it makes a great point. - Amelio Rodriguez

The NHRA is going to hate this guy. He makes too much sense. Plus it sure sounds like he knows what he's talking about. Good Job. - Dwayne Hargrove

Feelin' your pain. I'm sure the NHRA is looking at 80,000 times the cost of a $10 dollar shirt (retail) $3,00 (wholesale) which figures out to be (oh my god) $240,000 dollars in cost, which is of course is spread over a year, while they made $5 million in membership! As a car magazine publisher, I can assure you that the operating money made to produce the magazine, to pay the employees, printing, mailing, etc. comes from advertisers within the magazine, the rest as they say is profit!  I can also tell you that the 80,000 figure is low compared to subscriber bases for most national car magazines and low considering the number of fans that come to each individual event.  Roughly speaking, the NHRA is only getting 5% of the audience to sign up (and still making 5 million) imagine what would happen if they went back to the old way and gave out hats or shirts (with sponsor logos on the back paid by the advertisers at no cost to the NHRA)they'd increase more than double!!  Good work on your writing, love the idea! - John Shapiro
