FEEDBACK FRIDAY – PRO STOCK MOTORCYCLE RACERS CRY FOUL

FEEDBACK ARTICLE – PRO STOCK MOTORCYCLE RACERS CRY FOUL

1_9_2009_psm.jpgBack in the old days, there were issues with the 4 valve Suzuki engines making so much more power than the Kawasaki 2 valve engines. The 1295 cc Suzuki came real close to parity with the Kawasaki 1500 2 valve.

This new rule change can only be fair if the V-Rod is relegated to 130 cid, the Buell at the current 160 and the Suzuki 2 valve at the current 101 cid and the "other" 4 valve inline 4 cylinder engine at 85 cid, all at 620 lbs.

At the least, it would give a little more parity than throwing the V-Rods in at the hellacious advantage of 4-valve and 160 cid? Does NHRA think we are all as stupid as to believe this is fair? - Raymond Goshorn

NHRA always gave 2 valve motors a displacement advantage over 4 valve motors so they need to take displacement away from a 4 valve H-D motor to make things fair.  NHRA needs to think this out and just not give Harley anything they want.

Are the 2 valve Suzuki motor and a 4 valve Suzuki motor at the same displacements? - Ralph Pitlock

This is nothing new, it started years ago when Harley came into nhra and was not required to meet the same rules as everyone else. No engines available for sale, no bodies for sale, could not buy a complete bike or any parts of the race bike. - John Hammock

Praise the Harley people-if the Suzuki can run a 4 valve, everyone should be able to run it.  Let G2 motorsports present the scenario that Suzuki presented to NHRA and Buell should be allowed the modification also.  Since when (in competition) does everyone have to run the EXACT same combination? - Gordy Shaw

It's like someone said years ago - Follow the money.  H-D gives a lot of money to the NHRA, and the NHRA will take care of them.  Fair and just don't appear anywhere in NHRA publications.  This is an especially unfair ruling in a time when the economy is in such sad shape.  But when has the NHRA ever listened to the racers?  I wish the AHRA still existed.  The NHRA has become a dictatorship, so I choose not to participate anymore.  Pro Stock bikers should follow suit. - John R. Martin

NHRA has stepped on their Johnson on this one. I really hope all the P/S Motorcycle teams that AREN'T on V-Rods will boycott NHRA till this is fixed! - Ray Rains.

The Buell and Suzuki can be purchased but the V-Rod cannot, I believe that alone should disqualify the H-D Team. If they want the same breathing as a Suzuki then let the Zuke have 160 cube and 4 valve and go heads up. NHRA is not about racing anymore, just about the $DOLLARS$. The Goodyear tire deal in Pro-Stock was rude also. The only reason I am a member and licensed is to ride my BIKE at the
tracks otherwise I wouldn't go near them. - Larry Hawkins
