FEEDBACK FRIDAY – LIGHT: BAN INCLUDES IHRA RACES

FEEDBACK ARTICLE: LIGHT: BAN INCLUDES IHRA RACES

1_25_2009_light.jpgWhat exactly is the name of this little world that the NHRA executives live in?

What happens there when fans/racers stop showing up to their exalted races?

These individuals should really step down from their thrones and take a long hard look at what they have created.  Increasing costs for racers and fans is NOT the way to do business in this economic rut.  Seriously....increasing costs and fees?  Really?  Restricting teams on their testing is one thing but to extend that testing ban to cover another organization's races is bordering on antitrust.  Should we bring Janet Reno in on this one?  Remember Microsoft, boys?

Someone needs to lift the building in Glendora and shake the riff-raff out of the rafters.  Suits have taken over drag racing and I don't mean driver's suits.  Take a good look around, NHRA, you are NOT the only game in town anymore.  You have ignored and pillaged Sportsman racers for decades and now you move in on the professional categories and the very fans that make your show what it is today.

Sooner or later, your actions will come to call.  - S.D. Wheeler, 2006/2008 Fun Ford Weekend, Ultra Stang World Champion

NHRA never ceases to amaze me. They say they are trying to reduce the expense so how many guys plan on moving up as a result of this? They say running IHRA is the same as testing so how many top 10 teams ran IHRA last year to test? If I remember right during Nitro-Gate IHRA refused NHRA entries to help their regular racers. This is just another NHRA my way or the highway deal.

It looks to me like the brain trust in Glendora came up with a way punish Schumacher after all. If you can't test you can't use his fuel. Beware Alan Johnson, foreign ownership will be the next crusade now they have squashed free enterprise. It's a shame the teams are so beholding to their sponsors it would be great to see the top team hold test sessions at a couple of ADRL races and throw the NASCAR … eh … NHRA points race on its ear.

It will result in teams testing during qualifying which I am guessing will result in even more aborted runs before the Saturday final sessions. When the show gets bad enough they will probably institute an elimination ladder based on average times to show these guys "when we say no testing we mean no testing".  This testing ban will of course help the privateers, let’s see there is Head, Hartley, Dakin, and ? (Regardless of the fact that on every run Head makes he is testing something)

If teams can't afford to test they won't. It's not like these guys are spending their own money. It has been that way since this sport began.

Oh I forgot and thanks for the ticket discounts, sportsman enty fee relief and management salary cuts! - J.J. Croyle

Understand the concept. But Wow. That is stupid move. Never the less it was a great read. - Eric Goulden
