because of his history brings an air of honesty to the table when he
speaks. There's no political correctness it's straight from the hip
information that has his mark on it with no corporate stripe. Also his
experience as a racer who ran out of his own pocket to being a paid
shoe with one of the greatest racing organizations to date is a resume
for his success. - Clarence Sifton

as I predicted with the sale of Budweiser. It took the new foreign
owners less than 4 months to rape and raid everything, putting more
AMERICANS out of work. Go ahead let them sell some more companies to
foreign people. Personally after this, if I never had another Budweiser
it would not bother me at all. – Mark Yanik

Stock has indeed come far afield from its roots. As a fan, I think it
is high time that NHRA return P/S to its roots as a class that runs a
combo that the average fan can relate to as being a car he could
purchase. - Dale Tuley

FEEDBACK FRIDAY – LIGHT: BAN INCLUDES IHRA RACES

FEEDBACK ARTICLE: LIGHT: BAN INCLUDES IHRA RACES

1_25_2009_light.jpgWhat exactly is the name of this little world that the NHRA executives live in?

What happens there when fans/racers stop showing up to their exalted races?

These individuals should really step down from their thrones and take a
long hard look at what they have created.  Increasing costs for racers
and fans is NOT the way to do business in this economic rut.
Seriously....increasing costs and fees?  Really?  Restricting teams on
their testing is one thing but to extend that testing ban to cover
another organization's races is bordering on antitrust.  Should we
bring Janet Reno in on this one?  Remember Microsoft, boys?

Someone needs to lift the building in Glendora and shake the riff-raff
out of the rafters.  Suits have taken over drag racing and I don't mean
driver's suits.  Take a good look around, NHRA, you are NOT the only
game in town anymore.  You have ignored and pillaged Sportsman racers
for decades and now you move in on the professional categories and the
very fans that make your show what it is today.

Sooner or later, your actions will come to call.  - S.D. Wheeler, 2006/2008 Fun Ford Weekend, Ultra Stang World Champion

article. It is amazing that everyone but the NHRA understands the
current economic situation. A few empty race tracks and short fields
will hopefully open their eyes! - Matt Genette

FEEDBACK FRIDAY – TIM CHARLET: FROM THE GRANDSTANDS

FEEDBACK ARTICLE – TIM CHARLET: FROM THE GRANDSTANDS

I have never sent a comment in on an article in my 49 years on this
earth, until now. Tim Charlet is 100% correct in what he is saying. We
should all write to the NHRA and ask them to provide 5+ year members a
vote on the election of Board Members and Senior Management, as well as
a vote on things that effect the current and future direction of the
NHRA. I don't want a vote on HOW to slow down the cars, but I DO want a
vote on staying at 1000 ft or going back to 1320 ft. Giving the members
of the NHRA a vote on is the only way things will change in the right
direction.

I was an NHRA member years ago and I decided to renew my membership a
couple of years ago. After being a member for a year, I did not renew
it again. I did not see any real value in it. Believe me, if in order
to have a vote on important issues, I needed to be a Lifetime Member or
a 5+ year member like in the NRA, I would renew my membership each and
every year.  NHRA membership would double almost overnight!

Tom Compton needs to stop worrying about keeping his job and do what is
right to grow this non-profit organization. Giving members the right to
vote is the right thing to do. I will be happy to pay for my membership
t-shirt if I have a vote. - Kevin Loeffler

FEEDBACK FRIDAY – PRO STOCK MOTORCYCLE RACERS CRY FOUL

FEEDBACK ARTICLE – PRO STOCK MOTORCYCLE RACERS CRY FOUL

1_9_2009_psm.jpgBack
in the old days, there were issues with the 4 valve Suzuki engines
making so much more power than the Kawasaki 2 valve engines. The 1295
cc Suzuki came real close to parity with the Kawasaki 1500 2 valve.

This new rule change can only be fair if the V-Rod is relegated to 130
cid, the Buell at the current 160 and the Suzuki 2 valve at the current
101 cid and the "other" 4 valve inline 4 cylinder engine at 85 cid, all
at 620 lbs.

At the least, it would give a little more parity than throwing the
V-Rods in at the hellacious advantage of 4-valve and 160 cid? Does NHRA
think we are all as stupid as to believe this is fair? - Raymond Goshorn

FEEDBACK FRIDAY – EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW - JIM OBERHOFER

FEEDBACK ARTICLE – EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW - JIM OBERHOFER

1_6_2009_jimo.jpgWhile
my heart sincerely ached for Scott Kalitta and his entire family and
crews after his fatal accident, I disagree with Jim O.'s recent
interview that, if E-Town has been running a shortened 1000 foot racing
surface then, Scott might now be alive.  Given the perfect storm in
that accident, the additional 320 feet stopping distance would have
made no difference.  Concrete and iron poles plus extreme speed in most
accidents equals death - period.  A GREATLY extended stopping are with
combined nets and long sand traps will make a difference.

But - I do agree that Nhra, as usual, is ducking a real remedy to this
situation, since, I believe most of their sanctioned tracks cannot
produce adequate stopping distance extension to their current woefully
inadequate racing tracks.  Those tracks - including Pomona and the
other NHRA owned tracks - should simply be removed from sanctioning Pro
class racing events.

With my son, "Fast Jack" Beckman, poised to become 2009 Fuel Funny Car
Champion I can only hope and pray that GOOD WISE MEN make the correct
business decisions.

NHRA has provided the stage.

Don Schumacher and Rodger & Karen Comstock have handed Jack the script.

I will be in the front row of the audience.

May the PLAY go on. - Bob Beckman
