‘THE ROCK’ SPRUCING UP FOR SUPER BOWL BRACKET RACE

In advance of this weekend's third annual SFG Promotions’ Super Bowl of Drag Racing and its half million dollar cash purse, Rockingham Dragway owner Steve Earwood has commissioned Rockingham-based Hudson Paving, Inc., to refurbish the track’s feeder roads and thereby provide greater ease of access for an expected field of 500 of the nation’s premier racers.

"Our goal is to provide the best possible experience for everyone,” Earwood said, “not just on our world-class dragstrip but in the pits and grandstands, too.”

Focus of the four-day, big-money bracket race are $100,000-to-win races on Friday, Saturday and Sunday with sponsorship from FTI, VP Racing Fuels and Mickey Thompson Tires and Wheels, respectively.

"We've come full circle,” Earwood said.  “We were the first track to pay $100,000 in Top Fuel and Funny Car to Kenny Bernstein and John Force at the Winston Invitational back in 1997 and now we’re in a position to pay the same amount to not one, not two, but three bracket racers.  I think that tells you how healthy drag racing is right now.”

In addition to the three $100,000 races, early arrivals can run for $20,000 on  Thursday.

Adult spectator admission is $15 a day or $40 for the event.  Children 12 and under are free when accompanied by a ticketed adult.
