GUGLIOTTA TO DRIVE FOR JONES 2-CAR TEAM

Chassis builder/IHRA Pro Stock driver Rick Jones plans on having a two-car team in 2007, neither of which he will drive. Jones will use the competition

tandem of Frank Gugliotta and Mike Corvo, Jr.

Jones said this move is intended to free up his complex schedule to allow more time for customer service

“I’m not giving up driving permanently. I just want to do a good job of taking care of my customers,” Jones said. “I feel that we build the best race car, and we have the best customers. I want to make sure that it stays that way. I am very excited about next year to say the least. Bonnie, Rickie and I have always wanted to run two cars. We are putting sponsorship in place for the second car, and that sponsor will be announced in the near future.”

Gugliotta drove for Charlie Taylor last year and placed third in championship points standings.

“I would like to thank Rick Jones and his family, Bonnie and Rickie, for the opportunity to become a part of their Quarter-Max Racing team,” Gugliotta said. “I am excited to begin working with them towards a goal to be a contender for the 2007 eMax IHRA Pro Stock World Championship. I feel confident that they will give us the best to compete with, and will do whatever it takes to allow us to achieve success in 2007. I have the utmost confidence in RJ Race Cars, as I have been successful in Rick’s cars; having a 2003 Sunoco Pro Stock Shootout win, a number 3 finish in 2003, a number 2 finish in 2005, as well as several National Event victories. All I can say is that I can’t wait to let the clutch out in 2007.”

Corvo has driven in the past for Jones when he campaigned a Pro Stock Truck. He drove in one event during the 2006 season for Jones.

“We used the World Finals in October as a “test run” for the 2007 season and the results were positive,” Corvo said. “The weather and track conditions during our test session were not ideal and that limited us to only one full run before going to Rockingham. The real challenge was for the crew chief and engine tuner; they had to come up with a qualifying setup using the limited data from our test session. I wish the season started tomorrow! I know everyone at Quarter-Max and RJ Race Cars might disagree though as they are all up to their ears filling holiday orders. Our plans are to make our first test runs in January or February, and come out fighting for a championship victory at San Antonio in March.”

The interesting twist is that NRA Pro Stock racer Larry Morgan will be providing the horsepower for one of the cars. Jon Kaase will do the other.

“We will be running a 2007 RJ Race Cars Chevy Cobalt with Larry Morgan providing the GM horsepower and a 2007 RJ Race Cars Ford Mustang GT with Jon Kaase Ford power,” Jones said. “We are going to compare the two brands and see which one is the best. Frank is not only a great driver; he is also a great tuner. Between him and my son Rickie, they will bring a lot of experience to the table. Mike Corvo Jr. is a natural driver and has a good feel for the car. Mike will be a great addition to our team. We have been really good friends for a long time.  Next year we will have a really good team with two good cars and drivers. A great group of people, all of whom have the same goal, and that is winning.”
