Immokalee Regional Raceway owner Ralph Hester’s season-opening 2007 Summit Racing Equipment Pro-Am Tour presented by Mr. Gasket event, the inaugural Winter Open, scheduled February 9 – 11, will count as a home or out-of-division race for all drivers regardless of claimed division. 

“Participants may use this event, the inaugural Winter Open, as an in- or out-of-division claim,” said IHRA director of competition and technical services Mike Baker. “By doing so, it gives our competitors the ultimate in flexibility when planning their 2007 racing schedule.”

"IHRA is committed to making the Summit Pro-Am Tour the best value available for sportsman racers,” IHRA Pro-Am director Frank Kohutek said. “This is just one more way that we can creatively save competitors money while allowing them to compete in a full schedule of events.

“This is a competitor’s best opportunity to get away from the cold, get a fix for your cabin fever, go on vacation, party with your fellow friends and racers and of course, race,” added Kohutek. “Immokalee Regional Raceway will begin the 2007 season with a double Pro-Am event, a Quick-32 with dragsters versus door cars, a racer’s party on Saturday night along with a heads-up stock suspension show.”

Under the new changes for 2007, a racer can now use his or her best five (5) out of their first eight (8) Pro-Am races. With the addition of the Alabama International Dragway double-event June 1 – 3, a Heat Wave competitor can now achieve full count of Pro-Am races without ever leaving their home division. This was done in an effort to help sportsman racers cut down on the ever increasing travel costs. The remaining events for the Heat Wave region are Douglas Motorsports Park, May 4-6, Alabama International Dragway June 1-3, and Carolina Dragway September 14-16.
