SCOTT KALITTA SWEEPS AUSSIE COMPETITION
"What a way to end an awesome two days of racing. It was great to come down here last year and even better to come back again this year", said Scott.
Scott's run to the final is as follows:
Scott Kalitta used a string of consistent runs to win the second running of the
Australia VS. USA Top Fuel Showdown. Throughout the day Scott used a 4.67, a
4.56 and a 4.58 to take the win for the second year running.
"What a way
to end an awesome two days of racing. It was great to come down here last year
and even better to come back again this year", said Scott.
Scott's run to
the final is as follows:
First round - defeated Steve Read - 4.67 to a
6.87
Second round - bye 4.565/330.31MPH
This speed was good enough
to reset the Australian National Speed Record at 332.89 - the speed that Scott
recorded on his final qualifying pass Tuesday night when he ran 4.517.
In
the final Scott Kalitta defeated an improving Terry Sainty with a 4.580/325MPH
pass. Sainty managed to run low to mid 5 second passes throughout the
weekend.
These are definitely NHRA standards and show the talent of
Scott's crew chief Jim Oberhoffer.
"'Jim-O' really showed us what he is
capable of throughout the two days of racing," said Jim Read, WSID
CEO.
The Read family stunned everyone including the visiting Americans during the second qualifying session on Tuesday night when they etched their way into the Australian Drag Racing history books as the first all Australian team to break into the 4.50 zone with a 4.571.
"We finally did it. Bruce, Phil
and the rest of the crew really deserve this. We couldn't think of a better time
to achieve this feat than right here on our home track and in-front of visiting
Americans. This is a sign of things to come," remarked Read.
In the ever
so competitive field of Top Alcohol, Wayne Newby managed to win his third
consecutive event with a win over Brett 'The Boss' Stevens in an extremely close
final round match up. With the win Wayne stretches his lead in the Top
Alcohol points championship for 2006/2007.
In Top Doorslammer Peter
Lovering used a consistent race car to win the no holds barred Top Doorslammer
