Summit Motorsports Park, Norwalk, Ohio, was honored twice at the annual NHRA Division 3 banquet Saturday, January 8 in Indianapolis, Indiana, by being named “Track of the Year” as well as president of Summit Motorsports Park, Bill Bader, Jr., named “Person of the Year.” NHRA Division 3 includes race tracks and thousands of drag racers from Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin, and Ontario, Canada.

In addition to Summit Motorsports Park and Bader, the 44th annual Land of the Winners Awards Banquet recognized NHRA Division 3 champions.

Debra Sue Tobak, general manager of Summit Motorsports Park, said of the track recognition, “What an unbelievable thrill. It makes all of us stand a little bit taller and work a little bit harder. We have always tried to be the best we could be and this recognition of our efforts is just awesome.” She attributed much of the track’s success directly to the racers who have always been considered part of the family that made it happen.

In addition to Track of the Year, Summit Motorsports Park was bestowed a second honor, given to Bill Bader, Jr., president of the facility. Jay Hullinger, director of the NHRA Division 3, said of the award, “Over the years we’ve recognized a number of individuals for outstanding performances, accomplishments or contributions to our sport. There are certainly a number of worthy candidates for this year’s honor, however we think that everyone will agree with our selection which was a result as much of what happened off the track as on.”

Hullinger continued, “The 2010 B’laster Cavalcade of Stars presented by Budweiser at Summit Motorsports Park, May 14-16, had the largest single-day and weekend crowds in the near 50-year history of NHRA divisional events. The event’s success didn’t just happen. The track executed a multi-faceted plan to attract fans, combining booked-in entertainment and stars from our NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series.  Couple that with ‘the Norwalk Experience’ and you had what some referred to as a ‘Woodstock on wheels.’ Every year, one person that the NHRA believes has made the most important contribution to the betterment of the sport is named the ‘Person of the Year.’ This year’s winner, from Summit Motorsports Park, has a lifetime of experience in the sport starting at the very bottom and working his way to the top. Thirty years of learning and doing everything possible to raise the standards of the sport and twelve years of guiding from the top management position of one of the most successful drag strips in the country earned Bill Bader Jr. the award of a lifetime.”
