MARCH MEET WRAP-UP

Stephen Romanazzi won Sunday's Nostalgia Funny Car Final when Chris Krabill left early, turning on the red light at Auto Club Famoso Raceway during the 49th anniversary of the March Meet.  The three-day festival of speed attracted a crowd estimated between 35,000 and 40,000 nostalgia racing, street rod and hot rod fans. More than 500 racers competed in ten classes at the traditional Bakersfield event produced by the track's operators, John and Blake Bowser.

In Top Fuel, Brett Harris defeated Jim Murphy, who was attempting to win his fifth March Meet.  Harris roared down the quarter-mile in 5.865 seconds at a speed of 257.65 mph.  Murphy's car broke during the run.  On his way to the win, Harris defeated his father, Jack Harris, during the first round of eliminations.

Other class winners included Chris Abbey in AA /Gas Supercharged, Kin Bates in A Fuel, J.D. Zink in Junior Fuel A, Bud Hammer in Junior Fuel B, Dave Ward in Nostalgia Eliminator, Dan See in Nostalgia Eliminator II, James Purpuro in Nostalgia Eliminator III and Leonard Perry in B Gas.
