RECORD CROWD AT ATLANTA MOTOR SPEEDWAY DRAGS

Week four of Atlanta Motor Speedway’s new Friday Night Drags series brought a record car count.

With week four in the books, new and past champions were crowned and unique vehicles could be found in the Show-N-Shine area.

Jackson, Ga.’s Clint Abbott and his 1967 Chevelle claimed the Pro series championship.

“We support AMS 100 percent with what they are doing here,” said the first time AMS winner. “This is a lot more fun than going to other tracks and this series really has the potential to turn into something big.”

Daryl Stiles, hailing from Newnan, Ga. and his 302-powered Mustang claimed the Pro-Street trophy with Jonesboro, Ga. resident Luis Romaw’s Mazda RX-7 taking home the Import title for a second straight week.

Lizella, Ga.’s Raymond Wilder piloted his yellow ’69 Camaro to victory in the Domestic class and Peter Rogowski’s ’92 Ford Ranger claimed the victory in the all-new Truck division.

The Show-N-Shine division swelled with vehicles ranging from Camaros to 18-wheelers. Griffin, Ga.’s Burnell Guyton claimed the top-prize in the Stock Vintage class with his red Corvette. McDonough, Ga.’s Eddie Chapone’s Ford deuce coupe won the street rod division and Decatur, Ga. resident Hal Johnshon’s 2005 Chevrolet HHR was the best looking Stock Current at the show.

Tommy Schoultz and his 2005 Big Dog Ridge Back won the Best of Show trophy for the motorcycle division.

“The fourth night of Friday Night Drags at AMS was a complete success,” said Atlanta Motor Speedway vice president of events Brandon Hutchison. “The support is overwhelming and the sky is the limit with this exciting new series.”

The fifth night of Friday Night Drags and the Show-N-Shine car show at Atlanta Motor Speedway will be on September 8. Tickets are available at the gate or fans can call (770) 946-4211 or visit www.atlantamotorspeedway.com for additional information.
