QUAKER CITY DRAGWAY RESCUED

Mark and Tammy Mazzant are the newest owners of Quaker City Raceway according to the track’s website.

The newly sanctioned NHRA sanctioned track had been on the auctioneers block early in 2007 and one of the oldest drag racing facilities in the world appeared headed for permanent closure.

Mazzant got together with track owner Dan Swindell and put together a deal that would keep the track (that is ready to celebrate its fiftieth anniversary this year) as a motorsports facility.

“I am over the moon that the track will not be lost to racing. I put a lot into it but could not continue to put all my efforts into the facility and I had to give it up,” Swindell said. “I wish Mark and Tammy every success and will help them in any capacity they need.”

“I’ve been a racer at QCR for the past ten years and have many friends amongst the racers,” Mazzant said. “I really would have hated to see it go away. It turned out that Tammy and I could do something about it and now racing will continue at this historic venue. I appreciate the offer of help from Dan and will take him up on that. This is a top notch facility and my focus will be on improving the facility on a regular basis, to give our racers a track worthy of them.

“We will initiate a points series and that will commence sometime in June. There will be larger events and that will start off with the Steel Valley Super Nationals will run on June 22-24. Somewhere along the way we will also find time to run a 50th Anniversary race to celebrate that significant milestone. I am looking forward to my new challenge” The plan is to have the track open as early as June 1st if everything falls into line.”
