IHRA TULSA - FRIDAY QUALIFYING

T.J. Zizzo, of Lincolnshire, Ill., took the provisional No. 1 Top Fuel qualifying spot Friday at Tulsa Raceway Park with a track record-setting 4.649 ET at 314.68 mph pass. Other provisional No. 1 qualifiers for the Skull Shine Sooner Nationals include Gary Densham (Nitro Funny Car), Shannon Jenkins (Pro Modified), Larry Dobbs (Alcohol Funny Car) and Robert Patrick (Pro Stock).

 

Current Knoll Gas Torco Racing Fuels Pro Nitro Top Fuel points leader Zizzo covered the quarter-mile in 4.649 seconds at 314.68 mph. He picked up the provisional No. 1 qualifying spot and the Last Man Standing, earning five bonus points. He’s followed by Bruce Litton, Scott Palmer and Bobby Lagana Jr. Scotty Cannon sits on the bump spot.

“We made a good little run,” said Zizzo. “We expected a mid-4.60, and that’s what we did. We wanted to come out here and lay down a good pass for the Tulsa fans. We gave them the fastest one ever down this track.”

 

densham.jpg Densham, Bellflower, Calif., a regular on the NHRA circuit, jumped into the No. 1 spot with a 4.887, 311.05, also claiming the Last Man Standing. Jon Capps, Las Vegas, sits second followed by Tim Wilkerson and Jack Wyatt. Current points leader Dale Creasy Jr. is currently No. 7.

 

Jenkins, Tuscaloosa, Ala., grabbed the provisional Torco’s CompetitionPlus.com Pro Modified No. 1 position and the Last Man Standing with a 6.154, 230.65. Rickie Smith is second, Pat Stoken third and Matt Hagan fourth. Dave Pierce, Claremore, Okla, is currently tenth.

 

Ontario’s Dobbs holds the No. 1 and Last Man Standing Alcohol Funny Car spot with a 5.863, 237.09. He’s trailed by Rob Atchison, also from Ontario, then Ohio’s Mark Thomas and current points leader Terry Munroe.

 

In Torco’s CompetitionPlus.com Pro Stock, Patrick, Fredericksburg, Va., sits in the No. 1 spot with a 6.408, 216.31. Patrick won the Pro Stock category at the last IHRA national event in Tulsa. However, it was Rob Mansfield with his 6.427-second winning round pass that earned him the QuarterMax Pro jenkins.jpgstock Challenge and current fourth position on the qualifying ladder. Pete Berner sits second, followed by Dean Goforth, Holdenville, Okla., whose son Cary Goforth sits No. 11.
