ENDERS CLOSE TO TOP EIGHT

Call it youthful exuberance. While many of her peers are lamenting the upcoming stretch of eight races in nine weeks, including an unprecedented six races in a row, 23-year-old Pro Stock driver Erica Enders is excited about an endless summer on the strip.

Well rested after nearly a month on the sidelines and wheeling a brand-new Dodge Stratus R/T from chassis builder Jerry Haas, Enders sees the next two-plus months of non-stop racing as the perfect chance to secure her place in the Countdown to the Championship. Just 44 points out of the field of eight that will fight for this year's championship, Enders is ready to make her mark beginning this weekend in Topeka.  sunday_stlouis0025.jpgCall it youthful exuberance. Just 44 points out of the field of eight that will fight for this year's championship, Enders is ready to make her mark beginning this weekend in Topeka.

"I love racing and when I look at the schedule right now I see a lot of opportunity for this race team," Enders said. "We're totally ready for this stretch with a new car and a bunch of new motors. I can't wait to get started.

"Basically, this stretch of races is going to decide who gets to run for the championship and who doesn't. Obviously, we want to be in that group and I really feel like we have all the pieces in pace to make a run. I say 'Bring it on.' I'm really pumped up."

Already the most decorated female racer in Pro Stock history with more final-round appearances, low qualifying efforts, elimination-round wins, and races entered, Enders hopes to quickly add the one piece missing from her Pro Stock resume -- a national event win.

"It's going to happen and maybe this run of races will get us into a groove where we can get that first one in the books," Enders said.

Enders will be sporting a new look this weekend as she banners longtime associate sponsor Aeromotive on her silver racer. Aeromotive is headquartered in nearby Kansas City.
