Twenty-six year-old Jeff O’Neill will make his competition debut in drag racings
ultimate category, Top Fuel Eliminator July 6-8 at the IHRA Cars RV & Marine
Rocky Mountain Nationals presented by Torco Racing Fuels at Castrol Raceway in
Edmonton, Alberta. O’Neill, who hails from Pennsdale, PA is no stranger to the
driver’s seat or the winners circle, having honed his skills in sportsman
vehicles since the age of eight.
Back in November, O’Neill earned his Top Fuel competition license at the
wheel of Litton’s Lucas Oil backed machine, and has since patiently waited his
opportunity to compete at the sports highest level. That opportunity presents
itself in Edmonton, as O’Neill will pilot a team car for former IHRA Champion
Litton. O’Neill will be working with the same Litton team that gave 2006 NHRA
Rookie of the Year J.R. Todd his first opportunity behind the wheel, and also
aided multi-time IHRA Champion Clay Millican’s progression into the Top Fuel
ranks.

While Jeff O’Neill may not be a household name to the average racing fan,
he is generally regarded as one of the top sportsman drivers in the country. At
the wheel of various sportsman dragsters, O’Neill has assembled a very
impressive on-track resume at a young age. He is the youngest individual to
ever win an IHRA National event, as he took the Quick Rod crown at the
President’s Cup Nationals at the age of 16 years, 1 month. In 1997, his rookie
season in Quick Rod competition, he finished fourth in national points. He has
been a finalist at the prestigious “Million Dollar Race,” and earned notable big
dollar bracket race victories at the Atco Raceway Superbucks Weekend, the Moroso
5-Day Bracket Championships, and the Farmington Dragway Big Bucks Bonanza.
Prior to the age of sixteen, O’Neill was a force in the Junior Dragster ranks,
capturing five track championships in his tenure in the class.
“I can’t describe how excited I am to not only be competing in the Top Fuel
class, but to also be surrounded by such a great team, with Bruce Litton and his
entire staff. This is the opportunity I’ve always sought, and I’m so thankful
to everyone involved for giving me this chance,” explained O’Neill. “I want to
give a huge thanks to the entire team, especially to Mike Wolfarth for all his
hard work and countless hours getting the new car together. And of course, I
want to thank my Mom and Dad for all their love and support throughout my racing
career, and my life.”
The Rocky Mountain Nationals will be O’Neill’s first appearance at the
wheel, and the team plans to attend select events throughout the remainder of
the season as they seek the necessary backing to pursue the entire IHRA schedule
in 2008 and compete for the IHRA Emax World Championship.
