MOHEGAN SUN, ATHEY AT YANKEE STADIUM FOR GOOD CAUSE

Paul Athey, driver of the Mohegan Sun Pro Mod, is set to appear at Yankee Stadium tonight representing the Mohegan Sun Casino. Mohegan Sun, through a charitable partnership with the New York Yankees, raised $37,750 towards finding a cure for Muscular Dystrophy. Mohegan Sun donates $150 for every double play the Bronx Bombers turn during the season. During the 2005 season that turned out to be 151 double plays.

“I’m really excited to be part of the presentation,” Athey said. “I’m happy to represent Mohegan Sun, especially when we do the kind of work that really benefits the community. Marketing is a primary function of my job at Mohegan Sun and having this relationship with the New York Yankees is great for both of us.”

Coming off of a challenging weekend at the Amalie Oil North American Nationals, this is just the type of activity that Athey could use to raise his spirits.

“It was a tough weekend for us,” Athey said. “We just never really got settled and into our comfort zone during qualifying and we ended up not making the show. It was tough, but weekends like that make you appreciate the good ones even more. Being able to represent Mohegan Sun tonight, in this manner, really helps me put racing and life into perspective.”

The nearly $40,000 donation that will be presented before the crowd at Yankee Stadium tonight represents just a part of the ongoing efforts and programs Mohegan Sun supports in the name of charity.

“Without the players that we have at Mohegan Sun we would not be able to do the kind of community work that we do,” Athey explained. “The people that choose our casino as a place to spend their entertainment dollar are the people that allow for things like this to happen, which are really beneficial to the community.”

After a weekend of frustration, Paul Athey and the Mohegan Sun Racing team suddenly have a little more bounce in their step. Although walking onto the legendary turf at Yankee Stadium tonight does not totally erase the pain of the weekend, it places it is keen perspective.

“It always feels good to help other people,” Athey said. “I’m proud to be representing Mohegan Sun because we are doing great things.”
