DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS

Competition Plus wishes to correct and clarify some information concerning notes we posted from last weekend's American Drag Racing League event Dragstock III at Rockingham Dragway in North Carolina.

After reviewing our notes, we discovered that we had misinterpreted the comments of Flowmaster Vice-President Richard Small. In reference to the large attendance, Small was quoted as saying, "We need to find a place that will hold the crowd." However, track owner Steve Earwood said Small had "raved about this event staying at Rockingham" and in no way suggested a change of venue.

Another note said the county fire marshal closed the gates because of overcrowding. A member of Earwood's staff, perhaps incorrectly, told that to Competition Plus. Earwood said it isn't true.

In a separate incident, witnesses said two drunken male fans entered driver Annette Summer's trailer while she and her crew were in the staging lanes. Summer said that once she tracked down the identified men and confronted them, Earwood arrived on the scene and told her he didn't have time to deal with the situation, then told the men to go about their business.

Earwood told Competition Plus that an incident did occur at Summer's trailer but that he had no evidence of wrongdoing. Earwood said he told Summer to take inventory and that if anything is missing that he knows how to apprehend the alleged culprits. Earwood said that as of Tuesday morning, he knew of no claim of missing items from Summer's trailer.

We regret the errors and any inconvenience.
