History was made at the recently completed 16th annual IHRA President’s Cup Nationals as membership in the Sonny’s 220-mph club was officially filled. Rickie Smith (220.73), Chuck DeMory (220.40), John Bartunek (220.15) and Dean Goforth (223.62) were the last four to race their way into this prestigious club.

Frank Gugliotta was the inaugural member two years ago when he ran 220.26 mph. His effort was recognized with a special commemorative plaque, ring, jacket and $1,500. The newest members will be recognized at IHRA’s season ending event at Rockingham where a historic group photo will be taken. The remaining jackets and rings will be awarded at a later date to be announced.

Long time Sonny’s customer Rickie Smith, just recently named the #1 IHRA Mountain Motor racer of all time, John Montecalvo and Robert Patrick were also members of the Sonny’s 200-mph club which was completed in 1994.
