Billy Holt, driver of the legendary Alabamian Funny Cars, died Oct. 25 in Athens, Ala. He was 76.

Billy Holt, driver of the legendary Alabamian Funny Cars, died Oct. 25 in Athens, Ala. He was 76.

Holt raced several Gassers and Funny Cars during the 1960s and 1970s and was the car owner when his car was wheeled very successfully by Wayne Mahaffey in East Coast action.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jo Richardson Holt; two sons, Greg Holt and Scott Holt, and daughter-in-law, Diane; one grandson, Brandon Holt; one granddaughter, Amanda Lindsey and her husband, Chad; one great-grandson, Brodie Lindsey; and one brother-in-law, Tom Richardson, and his wife, Judy.
