That’s what Bruton Smith alluded to in a recent press conference when asked if the track would be ready for the proposed date. Two crews, working 16 hour shifts, are reportedly prepared to have the track ready by spring.

Smith has also said it will be finest strip ever built with a proposed budget expected to exceed $60 million. He’s also expected to spend another $200 million on the speedway.

The seating will come from North Carolina Motor Speedway. Smith said he recently sold the oval track in Rockingham, NC, and the back straightway seating was not part of the deal.

Smith will have over $80 million in incentives to work with which will largely provide better entrance roads near the facility as well as some funding for speedway improvements. This incentive package comes after a threat to move the complex elsewhere in the Charlotte area after Concord city officials voted to block a drag strip on speedway property.

Some of the proposed Charlotte-area relocation possibilities included Mt. Holley, Huntersville and an area close to Rock Hill, SC. The real kicker that narrowed the list down to five or six was the land requirement of at least 700 acres. The current facility is on 1,300 acres.
