IHRA DIVISION 4 SPORTSMAN NATIONAL EVENT

With the price of diesel fuel at near-record levels IHRA has designed its 2008 Summit Racing Equipment Pro-Am Tour presented by Mr. Gasket schedules with economy and value in mind. Adding to its industry changing “two race in one weekend” concept developed two years ago, IHRA has added a new twist to the schedule that will not only help sportsman racers compete for division championships, but be able to throw their hats in the national points chases as well.

The 2008 season will be comprised of four double Summit Pro-Am events as well as a single Summit Pro Am event in combination with a new Sportsman only national event. This allows sportsman racers to competitively compete for a world championship without having to travel to the north and northeast to chase national points.

The first event will be at San Antonio Raceway on March 14-16. Friday will be a test and tune day. Saturday there will be two time trials with eliminations begining immediately following the second time trial. Sunday morning there will be one time trial (time and weather permitting) before eliminations start for the second Pro Am event.

The second stop of the schedule will be Tulsa Raceway Park April 18-20. The same schedule and format that was used in San Antonio will be in play for this weekend. Dan Guterman and Denise McDaniel hosted a Knoll Gas Nitro Jam event and a Summit Pro Am Double last season.

The third stop of this schedule will bring us to a new venue, State Capitol Dragway in Baton Rouge, La. May 2-4, Gary Carter and his staff is currently tearing out the racing surface and repaving and widening the surface along with other major upgrades to the facility. Those who have been to this race track in previous years will not recognize or believe what money and a strong will can do. The same schedule and format will be used as in the two previous stops.

The fourth stop of this schedule will be at Pine Valley Raceway June 20-22. Billy Kestner and the Bailey family have put together a really nice facility that hosted 2007 Summit Team Finals. Kestner has put together a crew that prides itself on making a racing surface that is consistently top-notch.

The fifth and final stop will be at the new Dallas Raceway August 29-31. Dallas Raceway is a brand new facility that is currently under construction and will be the host of a 2008 Division 4 Summit Team Finals. It is the perfect place for IHRA’s new Sportsman only national event concept to play out. Kenny Barnes has gone way above and beyond to make this a premiere stop and one of the finest facilities in the country. Friday will be a test and tune day. Saturday, there will be two time times and go directly into Pro-Am eliminations. Sunday there will be one time trail and eliminations for the Sportsman national will immediately after that.
