CORY MAC & DUNN IN TOP HALF

Those 8,000 horsepower Top Fuel beasts lived up to their reputation and anticipation during qualifying yesterday with the quickest Top Fuel field in Australian Drag Racing history during the Interanational Top Fuel Challenge in Sydney, Australia.

Martin Stamatis top qualified with a 4.684 ahead of team mate Phil Read's 4.686.

American stars Mike Dunn and Cory McClenathan also slotted into the top half of the field with their 4-second efforts.

The unlucky racer was Amanda Shepherd, who drove a superb pedal effort in the 5.2 range, yet was not quick enough to qualify for race day today. Top Alcohol and Pro Stock also delivered during their impressive qualifying sessions - with Pro Stock scheduled to run their final qualifying session around 12-noon today after a wild day of unpredictability, with many competitors chasing aggressive performances that on some occasions left them more than a little unstuck.

It was an AA meeting of sorts at the top of the Top Alcohol qualifying table, with Aaron Lynch securing top peg with an awesome 5.66 pass at over 250mph. Aaron Hambridge slotted into second with a stout 5.70 pass.

John Barbagallo is the provisional Top qualifier in Pro Stock with a round to run today, nailing a 7.231 pass.

Pro Stock experienced 6 of the top-8 already into the 7.2 second zone in an exciting spectacle.
