CANNONS FACE ADVERSITY HEAD-ON
Scotty Cannon will tell
you that his career has yielded some tough situations despite winning six world
championships. However, this week he was dealt a blow that remains
unprecedented in his career.
Both
Cannon and his world championship-winning son Scott Jr., learned days ago that
their major sponsor Torco Race Fuels had suspended all motorsports team sponsorships.
The 2008 season is the first-ever title defense for Scott, Jr., the 2007 IHRA Pro Modified champion.

The 2008 season is the
first-ever title defense for Scott, Jr., the 2007 IHRA Pro Modified champion.
“We have been on the phone
ordering parts, motors, and hiring additional crewmen for the 2008 season when
we get the news about Evan’s health,” said Scott, Jr. “We want to first let
Evan and Latrell know we appreciate all that Torco has done for us these past
few years. We wouldn’t have raced without them On behalf of the entire team we
wish Evan a full recovery from his 2004 accident.”
This move is a tough
bullet for the team to bite considering they’d ordered a new Vanishing Point 1968
Firebird for the elder Cannon to drive. Not only has Cannonball Racing been
ordering the necessary parts, they have also ordered a second transporter to
house the additional car. But that, Scotty said, is secondary to the big
picture.
“Right now Evan needs to
focus on his health and getting well, we are grateful he has been able to fuel
us to our seventh IHRA World Championship as a team,” said Scotty. “We do have
to find sponsorship as soon as possible in order to keep racing. It would be a
shame for Jr. to not be able to defend his title”
