ARP QUESTION OF THE WEEK RESULTS - SURVEY SAYS ... WHACK THE (BLANK) OUT OF THEM
It's clear the NHRA fans like a little excitement in the pits.
During last week's ARP Question of the Week poll, a 60-percent majority of those who cast votes would love to see the NHRA either enforce or encourage nitro teams to whack the throttle during their pre-run warms-ups.
Our Facebook community was animated on both sides of the question.
"The entertainment value of the NHRA nitro ranks has greatly diminished," wrote J.R. Ybarra. "Here is what's needed: Whack the throttle, no more lame throttle stop burnouts and bring back dry hops before staging."
Gerry Kaleniecki added, "Glad someone is doing it since nobody does long smokey burnouts, no dry hops, no throttle- whacks and they HAVE the crew push them to the line. Crew chiefs have a shut-off box in their hands, I guess I'm glad they are blowing the hell out of their engines at half track."
There were many who believed a mandate would be wrong.
"Leave them alone let them do what they want to do to entertain the fans God knows NHRA needs all the help they can get," Larry Bray offered.
"Why would you bring this up, when they have a choice now to or not to do it?" Michael Lewis asked. "Leave things alone. If a team wants to do it they will. There's no reason for a rule making them do it. So leave it alone."
