ASHLEY SANFORD TO MAKE TOP FUEL DEBUT AT U.S. NATIONALS

Ashley Sanford confirmed to CompetitionPlus.com that she will be making her Top Fuel debut at the U.S. Nationals Aug. 30 through Sept. 4 at Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis.

"It's unreal," said Sanford in an exclusive interview Thursday. "Getting my license (May 1) was great, but now I will get to compete against NHRA's elite drivers. I want to show people I'm not just someone who wants to race, I want to try and go rounds and try and kick some butt."

Sanford will be driving the Lagana family-owned Nitro Ninja dragster at Indy. This is the same dragster she received her license in at Zmax Dragway in Charlotte, N.C.

According to Sanford, her primary sponsor at Indy will be Americas Best Value Inn owned by Red Lion Hotels Corporation.

"This a dream come true to have Americas Best Value Inn sponsoring us," Sanford, 23, said. "They have been with us since our first full season in Top Alcohol Dragster in 2013. They have grown with us and it is going be great to bring them out as our Top Fuel sponsor at this prestigious race. This is a one-race deal right now, but if things go well hopefully we have more to come."

Sanford said she will return to the seat of the Lagana-owned dragster at Lucas Oil Raceway in Indy for a test session the week before the U.S. Nationals.

"We are hoping to make two or three passes just to get things ironed out and help me get ready mentally and physically," Sanford said.

Sanford acknowledged keeping her feet on the ground until Aug. 30 will be tough.

"Fortunately, I have a great support system of family and friends and they can hold my ankles down," Sanford said. "I'm just so excited to finally get to race in Top Fuel. This is a dream come true and I can't wait to get to the staging lanes."
