BRITTANY FORCE CONTINUES HER LEARNING PROCESS IN FUNNY CAR

You can take the girl out of the Dragster, but can you take the Dragster out of the girl?

We may soon find out with Brittany Force as the John Force Racing driver stayed behind to test at zMAX Dragway on Monday, again behind the wheel of a Funny Car.

"I want to drive either way, whether it's a Dragster or a Funny Car," said Force. "If it were my pick it would be a Dragster because that's home to me, it feels the most comfortable to me, it feels like I could be the most competitive right now in it. Whereas the Funny Car, you're kind of starting over. But that's how this business works, sometimes we don't have a say in it, sometimes sponsors put their ideas in there and maybe we'll change directions if it opens up doors for more sponsors and funding the team and getting extensions on contracts so maybe we'll go that direction if we need to."

Despite having three teammates that currently race in NHRA's Funny Car division, Force admits that there's not a whole lot of advice they can give her that is useful at this stage.

"Right now the Funny Car is still so new to me, I can take as much advice as I can but it doesn't make sense until I experience it and do in on the racetrack.

"We're not trying to put any number on the board, I just want to get comfortable in the car. For me, getting a license isn't about doing it as quickly as you can and getting those numbers, making those runs. It's about an opportunity to make this more of me getting comfortable in the car.

"I probably won't leave here signing any papers for my license, I'll do it at the end of the year. It's just getting time and experience in the Funny Car.

"I want a license once I feel that I can drive this thing and I can be competitive in it."

While Force isn't competitive in a Funny Car just yet, her pace is certainly there in her Monster Energy Dragster, where she made it through to the semi-finals on Sunday. With a set of bonus points from qualifying on the side, Force was able to move her way up from sixth to fourth in the points standings entering Redding.

"We've always had pretty good success [at Redding]. We've run career best ET there years ago, we've been No. 1 qualifier, we've done a lot there so it's a great track and I'm curious how the weather will be. We're hoping it's going to stay cool but it looks like we'll get heat so that might mix things up a little bit."
