BUTNER IS PRO STOCK’S TOP QUALIFIER HEADING INTO RACE DAY AT VEGAS

:

Bo Butner has been on a roll this season.

The Pro Stock standout arrived at the 20th annual DENSO Spark Plugs NHRA Four-Wide Nationals in Las Vegas this weekend on a hot streak and he hasn’t cooled down.

Butner, who drives for the KB Racing team, qualified No. 1 with a 6.648-second lap at 206.67 mph on Friday and it held through Saturday’s two qualifying sessions at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

“We have a good car and we’ve had a good car since I set in it,” Butner said. “I’m very fortune, the KB team, Summit, Jim Butner Auto and Denso is helping us, and we have all these guys who support us, and we are just out here having fun. That’s probably one reason why we’re having a little success because this isn’t our life, but we do have fun and enjoy it.”

This was Butner’s 10th No. 1 qualifying position in Pro Stock and his second this season as he also was on top of the ladder in Phoenix. In addition to his strong qualifying efforts, Butner came to Vegas first in the points standings, thanks to winning two of the first three races this season in Pomona, Calif., and Gainesville, Fla.

Butner won the 2017 NHRA Mello Yello Series world championship.

“In ’17, I was stuck on this runner-up, runner-up, runner-up,” he said. “I think I had eight or nine runner-ups before I actually won a race, but now we kind of know how to win and I’ve learned a lot about every driver I race against. I really messed up there in the final qualifier. I was hoping to maybe go a little faster. We still had a good race car and we went down four times and I only have to go down three times (Sunday) and I’m very happy and I can’t wait. I’m getting ready to acquire another hat for my little grandson. We’ve been to four races and I have four hats and I can’t complain about that.”

Back in 2012, Butner doubled up in Vegas – winning Stock Eliminator and Competition Eliminator. He has a chance to do that again Sunday as he also is competing in the Super Stock Class.

“That would be really awesome,” said Butner about possibly doubling up again. “It has been an unbelievable start to the season and we’re just blessed.”
