CLASSIC NHRA RACES COMING TO YOUR SMART TV?

The cat is out of the bag, or at least it was let out during the most recent CompetitionPlus.com Power Hour.

According to guest Brian Lohnes, NHRA will soon announce its presence on Plex TV, a smart tv app that can be downloaded for free.

"There is now a 24-7, 365 day a year channel that has nothing but NHRA drag racing on Plex," Lohnes said. "And we'll be launching on various different free television apps through your smart TV over the next couple of weeks.

"You can watch everything from the 1963 Indy Nationals; there's hundreds of hours of vintage races up there. There's modern races up there. There's some of the web content that we're putting up there, some of the rewinds and stuff. And all this is stuff that's coming from conversations and ideas."

NHRA VP of Marketing and Communications Jeffrey Young said the series plans take full advantage of the opportunity to deliver as much drag racing content as it can to its fans and followers.

"There's more coming down the line," Young confirmed. "We are looking to add another one. It's still early in the presentation, and we are still working out all of the challenges." ,

Lohnes said this is just another example of forward-thinking the NHRA management is doing to expand the brand.

A couple of years ago we started running like some of the exhibition stuff we've run, like maybe some big tire, like no time cars or radial cars or diesel trucks at other places. And I can tell you where that all came from. That came from Denver three or four years ago.

"It was me and Glen Cromwell and a couple of guys I think probably after qualifying on Saturday night, we're eating there and having a couple drinks. And the conversation came up of like, where have we gone wrong? And what could we do? And how can we start to try to turn the tide back on some of this stuff? Or how can we try to reach out to people?

"And it's like, well, we got to invite them to the race. If we're not, if we're not communicating with a particular group, or if we've lost touch with a particular group or a segment of this sport, then we got to let them know that we want them to be around and we want to showcase them.

"And within six months we had put together a program and we saw a bunch of different exhibitions happen over the course of time. And those programs will be kicking back up again, doing some different things. But, I really do like the folks that run this company. And I like the fact that I could talk to them, and we can have good conversations about things that maybe they wouldn't have considered in the past."
