FORD'S 50TH ANNIVERSARY COBRA JET IS A BEAST

NEW COBRA JETS EQUIPPED WITH AEROMOTIVE TECHNOLOGY -  In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Mustang Cobra Jet, Ford Performance unveiled last week their new limited production, drag racing special Cobra Jet at the Woodward Dream Cruise in Detroit. Ford described it as the fastest production Mustang on the drag strip, capable of quarter-mile times in the mid-eight-second range trapping at 150 mph. Fueling this hot new machine down the track is Aeromotive’s Pro Series Fuel pump

Aeromotive president, Steve Matusek says, “As a company, we are intrinsically involved in the drag racing market and consistently use the track for serious product testing. To be chosen by Ford to provide a high-performance fuel system for the 50th Anniversary drag racing special Mustang Cobra Jet is a terrific honor and a testament to our reputation for quality.”

Ford executives expect the 2018 Mustang Cobra Jet by Ford Performance to be the most potent offering to date.

“From the very first Mustang Cobra Jets dominating the 1968 NHRA Winternationals to our modern-day Cobra Jet racers, the Ford Performance Parts team continues to build the Cobra Jet brand based on its success at the track over five decades,” said Eric Cin, global director, Ford Performance Parts. “That, in turn, has inspired generations of Mustang fans to create their own performance machines for the street.”

Early indicators suggest this is the most powerful and quickest ever version produced in the factory expected to run in the low-eight second range at well over 150 mph.

To ensure value Ford Performance will limit its 50th-anniversary Mustang Cobra Jet is limited to 68 non-VIN production cars in either its Race Red or Oxford White colors.

The engine is a supercharged 5.2-liter Coyote V8, and the factory-built race car also includes a unique four-link rear suspension, along with a Ford 9-inch solid rear axle from Strange Engineering. Additionally, the 50th-anniversary vehicle includes an NHRA-certified roll cage, Racetech FIA seats, and a drag race-specific coil-over suspension with specially designed Weld Racing wheels with 50th anniversary badging.

The price is set at $130,000.
