GOOD NEWS PLENTIFUL FOR STAR RACING

Good news has come in bunches for George Bryce’s Star Racing Pro Stock Motorcycle team.

Bryce confirmed Racepak has come onboard to sponsor his team and rider Angelle Sampey for the U.S. Nationals (Sept. 4-7) at Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis. Sampey has competed in 6 of the 9 NHRA PSM races this season, missing the last three at Denver, Sonoma, Calif., and Brainerd, Minn.

“We have been using Racepak data loggers since 1984,” said Bryce, who will turn 61 years old Sept. 6. “I had them on my first Pro Stock Motorcycle I ever raced, and I picked up a tenth of a second on my Pro Stock bike the first day I used it. I was very fortunate to learn early how to interpret this data for a performance increase. The reason we wanted to work out a special deal with Racepak is because of the history of success since the Ron Armstrong days when Racepak first came out, and this is a little bit of a celebration of how many years Racepak and Star Racing have been working together. Now we depend on Racepak tremendously. We feel like we are running around with the lights out if we don’t get any data (from Racepak).”

Bryce said he also still has the first designed Racepak computers on his motorcycles – at George Bryce Racing School at South Georgia Motorsports Park.

“We’ve been running that school for 21 years, had 800 students and 100 licensed professionals,” Bryce said.

Sampey, who will be riding a Buell at Indy, was thrilled to have Racepak sponsor her Star Racing motorcycle because it’s a product she can identify with.

“I don’t do a whole bunch of stuff on the motorcycle,” Sampey said. “I don’t work on it, I don’t turn any wrenches, but what I do, do after every round whether it is testing, qualifying or racing, I’m the one who is responsible for downloading the Racepaks, writing all the information down on our sheets. That’s my job. It’s kind of a special situation for me because it is the first time that I really have a connection with who my sponsor is going to be.”

Bryce added Sampey also will be competing at Charlotte for Star Racing and she will have a teammate – Andrew Patterson at the Sept. 18-20 event. Patterson was the winner of the Star Racing Challenge this past spring and he will be riding the Star Racing Challenge Suzuki in Charlotte.

“Part of winning the Star Racing Challenge was to get trained by the Star Racing team, to be mentored by Angelle, get a full set of Star Racing leathers, and do several test sessions prior to Charlotte,” Bryce said.

Staying on the positive news front, Bryce said he has a handshake agreement in place with a sponsor for Sampey to compete in all 16 Pro Stock Motorcycle races in 2016 with Star Racing.

From 1996-2010, Sampey won three world championships - 2000-2002 - and won 41 races, the most wins for any female in both NHRA competition and professional motorsports as a whole.

“Things are hopping at Star Racing right now,” Bryce said about the outlook for 2016.

Sampey returned to drive last season for Star Racing, competing in four races. This season Sampey is 12th in the point standings.

On a final note, according to Bryce he has contracts to build two new Pro Stock Motorcycle teams for the 2016 NHRA season.

“That is all yet to be announced,” said Bryce when asked who the two riders would be. “They will have new motorcycles, new engines, and all new equipment. That’s the job we do, we build teams from scratch. They will not be at my pit, but I will be responsible initially for their performance. We have done this for 17 teams over the years, but this will be the first time we have done it in a while.”
