HAGAN’S NEW HELLCAT BODY WAS READY FOR RACE DAY, BUT IT ENDED IN ROUND ONE

During Q4 at the Mile-High Nationals Saturday night, world champion driver Matt Hagan put his 2020 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Widebody nitro Funny Car to the test.

Hagan, who debuted the new Widebody at Bandimere Speedway in Morrison, Colo., this weekend, went up in smoke right at the hit and coasted to the finish line in 13.239 seconds at 76.54 mph. Hagan did click it off, but before he did, some damage was done to his new Widebody.

“It was just a little boomer, nothing bad,” said Hagan, who drives for Don Schumacher Racing. “It just got lean up there and popped that was all. It ate up the firewall a little bit, but nothing too bad. We turned it right around and it was ready to run. Everything was good.”

Hagan, who qualified No. 7 with his 4.054-second elapsed time at 283.07 mph, faced off against his DSR teammate Jack Beckman in round one and came up short.

Hagan had the lead to the eighth-mile before his car slowed and Beckman came around him. Beckman clocked a 4.084-second elapsed time and Hagan came across at 4.177 seconds.

Before the Mile-High Nationals, Hagan won the last race on tour – the New England Nationals in Epping, N.H., July 7.
