INTRODUCING THE FUELTECH RADIAL OUTLAWS RACING SERIES; THE NEW PLACE TO RACE FOR A DRAG RADIAL CHAMPIONSHIP

Donald Long has brought championship small-tire drag races to the masses for over a decade. During this time, the winners of his events were declared race champions for his style of racing.

Other tracks presented their variations of what this style of racing should be, and they, too, crowned their champions.

However, there was no one singular champion. Now there will be.

Long, with a group of sponsors FuelTech, Proline Racing, Energy, Callies, Scott Tidwell Racing, and M&M Transmissions, as well as multiple tracks, plan to institute a point system in 2022 to determine who is the best in the signature divisions of PRO 275, X-Treme275 (following established X275 rules), Outlaw Drag Radial (following established Limited Drag Radial rules), and Ultimate Street (following Ultra Street rules).

The tracks, along with sponsors, will invest into the points fund.

One thing Long wants to make crystal clear is, "This isn't my series."

Long told CompetitionPlus.com, "It's everyone's series. This [series] is just as much Ozzy Moya's, just as much Victor Alvarez's, just as much Jason Collins' and FuelTech, ProLine, Energy and Callies and the racers. I'm not considering this my series, I'm just considering this everybody's series."

However, when it comes to this style of racing, Long is pretty much the "Pied Piper" of small-tire racing, thus requiring clarification.

Long said the new series will be called the FuelTech Radial Outlaws Racing Series.

"This is the first time we've ever put together a big points deal between tracks," Long confirmed.

Long's staple facility' South Georgia Motorsports Park, will be joined by Orlando Speed World, Bradenton Motorsports Park, and Alabama International Raceway in this inaugural championship points series.

"Instead of all of the drama between the tracks, we are bringing everyone together," Long explained.

Long confirmed FuelTech would serve as title sponsor, while ProLine Racing Engines would handle the series administration, which could grow to as large as a quarter-million-dollar enterprise.

The FuelTech Radial Outlaws Racing Series will join Long's Sweet 16,  Lights Out and No Mercy events with Orlando's World Street Nationals, Bradenton's U.S. Street Nationals, Snowbird Nationals, and a new event at Alabama International Raceway into one robust drag radial tour.

Winning a championship will be lucrative as the Pro 275 champion will pocket $50,000, while X-Treme 275 and Outlaw Drag Radial divisions claim $25,000. The Ultimate Street titlist will earn $10,000. All four class points funds will pay back five spots, and all top ten finalists in all four classes will receive real gold rings, a trophy and jacket. These will be awarded in a special end-of-the-year gala awards banquet.

Long confirmed the series would be seven races, with racers only claiming their best six.

"We've never really had a champion four since we started doing this," Long said. "It's something that I think should have probably been done a long time ago, and probably a hold up was me and some of this stuff, but I believe that we really need to know who is the champion. You go to one big race or the other race, but in the overall picture, you run a seven-race series. To me, it's like you're watching your kids grow up or something. I mean it's time to really see and put them in the spotlight of who is the real champion.

"It's about the sport and the class, and putting everybody together. I'm tired of all of the negativity and drama as far as the tracks; I'm just glad everybody would come together, put in their share of the money to make it happen."

Long confirmed there will be more detailed and lucrative announcements coming in the near future. Stay tuned to CompetitionPlus.com for these announcements.
