JASON LINE RUNS TO TOP OF PRO STOCK QUALIFYING LADDER AT INDY 3

This is Jason Line’s final season as a Pro Stock driver in NHRA’s Mello Yello Series ranks.

Since racing has resumed following the COVID-19 hiatus, the three-time world champion has been on top of his game.

In the first race back, at Indy 1 in mid-July, Line qualified No. 1 and raced to a victory. Since then, he hasn’t lost any momentum.

He arrived at the inaugural Dodge NHRA Indy Nationals presented by Pennzoil in Indianapolis this weekend and qualified No. 1 with a 6.574-second pass at 208.75 mph in the first session of qualifying Saturday.

Line is in his 22nd season driving in the Pro Stock ranks. He pilots the silver Summit Racing Chevrolet Camaro and captured the 57th No. 1 qualifying spot of his Pro Stock career.

Line is aiming to claim the 52nd national event victory of his career. He collides with Robert River in first-round action Sunday. Line clocked a 6.626-second lap at 207.41 in Q2.

"I'm pretty happy with my Summit Racing Chevrolet Camaro today," said Line. "Last time we were here, we had an issue and didn't get to make two qualifying runs with my car – and today we got both runs in, so that feels like a good start. It was fun today, and I'm excited for tomorrow. We have a good opportunity; it will just be a matter of doing what we came here to do."

Line has won at least one NHRA national event in 17 consecutive seasons. He will continue to work with KB Racing after leaving the driver’s seat following this season. He won Pro Stock world championships in 2006, 2011 and 2016.

Team Summit's Greg Anderson, the driver of the Americana-themed Summit Racing Chevrolet Camaro, claimed five bonus points in qualifying; he was second-quickest in the first session on a swift 6.592, 208.46 and quickest of the bunch in the closing qualifier with a 6.612, 207.88. He will start from the No. 2 position and square off with Kenny Delco in round one.

Eliminations for the NHRA Indy Nationals will begin at 9 a.m. (ET) Sunday, August 9 at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis. This is the fourth race of the season for the Pro Stock class and fifth of the season for the nitro classes.
