KENNY FARRELL SELLS CFM CARBON MANUFACTURING
After 25 years of running Carbon Fiber Manufacturing (CFM), owner Kenny Farrell was ready to move on from his company in Rock Hill, S.C.
Last week, Farrell, who was in the Marines, sold his company, which produces drag racing components, to Chris Hennis, a Navy veteran. Hennis is 22.
“I decided to sell it (CFM) because I have a trucking company (KF Trucking) and it (the trucking company) is taking up all my time and I have not had a lot of time to focus on (CFM),” Farrell said. “He (Hennis) used to work for me in the past and he was getting out of the Navy he called me and said he would like to come back to work for me and I said I wasn’t going to bring anybody in, but I might have a deal for you. We got to talking and he’s into motorsports and it is a real good fit. He’s young, but he knew how to make all the products before, so it was a really step for him and now he’s having to learn the business end of it.”
Farrell has owned KF Trucking since 2006 in Rock Hill.
“The trucking company got too big and was taking all of my time, so I wasn’t able to focus on new product development and it wound up getting a little stagnated,” Farrell said. “I had to do a lot of races to stay out there in the public eye and all we were able to concentrate on really was the Duck races. It (CFM) needs more attention is all. More motivation and new ideas and all the stuff and Chris brings that to the company.
This is a proud moment for me that I’m able to turn it over to someone is going to continue the name for who knows how many years. I hated seeing the direction (CFM) was going and not progressing.”
As part of the transition, Farrell will serve as a consultant to Hennis.
“Chris not only bought CFM, but he also CFM motorsports which is an online speed shop,” Farrell said. “He gets all of that, so he will also be selling a lot of vendors’ products.”
Farrell has known Hennis for his entire life. Hennis and Farrell’s son, Jamie were in kindergarten together.
“This is a great chance for CFM and it’s going to be fun watching it grow bigger and better,” Farrell said.
The new phone number for CFM is 803.370.9582. The website is cfmttf.com.
