MURPHY, MORRIS, AND PADILLA LEAD DAY ONE OF THE 49TH ANNUAL NIGHTFIRE NATIONALS

 

Day one of the 49th Annual Nightfire Nationals got underway on Friday evening at Firebird Raceway. With the current pandemic looming, there are a very respectable number of professional cars who made the trip to the high desert facility. These are the results for Q1 which took place under the lights.

AA/Fuel Dragster

Jim Murphy lead the charge on Friday nights Q1 with a very solid 5.77-239.19. Followed by Pete Wittenberg’s 5.84-236.36.  Dusty Green in Steve Harwood’s Nitro Hemi is third at 5.88.-238.38 rounded out the top three.

In Q1 for funny cars, Billy Morris at the wheel of Eddie Knox’s Problem Child Camaro, set the tone with a solid 5.70- 246.17.  Slotting in at number two is two-time March Meet winner James Day at the wheel of Jim Broome’s Speed Sport Omni, at 5.77 -247.70. Rounding out the top three is jerry Espeseth in the Jason Rupert tuned Atlas Camaro at 5.78- 250.78.

AA/Fuel Altered

Eight Fuel altereds showed up for the Nightfires. Tom Padilla lead the way with a very nice 6.10 (on a 6.00 index) with a speed of 227.19.  Jason Pettit followed closely at 6.18.-231.44 and rounding out the podium for Q1 was the legendary, Johnny West, at 6.54-203.95.
