PAUL LEE WINS FIRST VIRTUAL REALITY EVENT AT RACE NO. 4

A win is a win, and for Funny Car racer Paul Lee, he'll take it.

Lee won the TruHarvest Funny Car division at the recently-completed Virtual Reality Hot Rod Association Thunder at the Dome event, the fourth of nine fan-vote events this season. He's yet to win a nitro race in real-life since making the jump in the early 2000s from alcohol funny cars.

Joining Lee in the winner's circle at the fantasy-themed CompetitionPlus.com Thunderdome was T.J. Zizzo (McLeod Top Fuel), Alex Laughlin (Quartermax Pro Stock), Matt Smith (Denso Pro Stock), and Rickie Smith (Jerry Bickel Race Cars Pro Modified).

Lee defeated Ron Capps in a rematch over the previous event at Lions Drag Strip.

"Hopefully, this is a sign of good things to come," Lee said. "Thank you to those who participated in this event. These are fun deals, and it's always good when we can engage our drag racing fans when there isn't any action happening on the real drag strip.

"I really didn't realize how many fans I had out there who participated in the CompetitionPlus.com reality drag racing events. I've been a fan of these events, voting every time on every race. Then to see others vote for me, I'm just beyond thrilled."

The victory vaulted Lee into fourth place in the championship series behind Alexis DeJoria, Tim Wilkerson, and Capps.

Zizzo picked up his second McLeod Top Fuel win of the season, stopping Doug Kalitta in the finals. He pulled into second place in the points behind Clay Millican.

In Quartermax Pro Stock, Alex Laughlin picked up his first virtual reality event, stopping Matt Hartford in the final event.

Laughlin did score a first in VRHRA competition by reaching the final round in two different classes. Unfortunately for him, he fell short of a double-up by losing in the Jerry Bickel Race Cars Pro Modified final round.

Someone finally did it. Steve Johnson entered the fourth Denso Pro Stock Motorcycle race of the virtual reality season undefeated. However, Johnson was upended in the first round by Jerry Savoie, who in turn ran into a Matt Smith buzzsaw. Matt then went on to stop his wife, Angie in the final round.
