POLLACHECK CLAIMS FIRST CAREER PRO STOCK MOTORCYCLE NO. 1

No matter what to Scotty Pollacheck on Sunday at the Dodge Nationals in Reading, Pa., he will never forget Saturday.

The veteran Pro Stock Motorcycle racer captured his first career No. 1 qualifying position with a 6.822-second run at 196.76 mph on his Suzuki Extended Protection Suzuki.

“We couldn’t make it easy, we had to add some excitement to it,” Pollacheck said. “After the first round, we blew the motor up, which was one of favorite motors. We had everybody helping from our team and Karen Stoffer’s team and everybody pitched in and we got everything we needed to do. Right in front of Jerry Savoie ran an 82 and I was thinking to myself what an incredible run that was in the heat of the day. Then we made our run and I knew it was a good run and I pulled off the end of the track and the NHRA guys told me I went (6.822) and I didn’t know what Jerry’s time was and then I pulled up where everybody was at and the first thing I said was did I get the old man. Then, Jerry said, ‘You got me. Congratulations. We had to throw some excitement in there and nothing is ever easy for us.”

Pollacheck then took a moment to reflect on his memorable accomplishment. Savoie qualified second with a 6.824-second run.

“To get our first No. 1 (qualifying position) ever is a huge deal,” Pollacheck said. “I wanted to get a green hat today and it was great that it worked out the way it did.”

Pollacheck was the only new pro qualifier to claim the No. 1 position, which is something he addressed.

“The Top Fuel guys are so much more dependent on the track where even when the track is a little marginal in the heat of the day we can usually can tune around and still get the bike down the track,” Pollacheck said. “It is just a lot of fine tuning and luckily for us we have Greg Underdahl tuning our bike and for the last two races he has been doing what we call old-school tuning because our RacePak hasn’t been working, so he’s tuning by feel. I don’t think anybody does that anymore, especially in the bike pits, but Greg has been around a long time and he learned the old school ways and it has really, really helped us out these last two weeks. Hat’s off to Greg to be able to tune that way.”

Pollacheck has been consistent all weekend, collecting eight bonus qualifying points.
