SOUTHEAST GASSERS ASSOCIATION TURNS IN ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL EVENT

The Southeast Gassers Association, drag racing’s strictest period-correct Gasser series, completed its second event of the season since a global pandemic brought the sport to its knees in March.

The event, held at Mooresville Dragway in Mooresville, NC, was a success, drawing good crowds which maintained social distancing throughout the event.

Alan Gaulden was tops in the A/Gas division, the top of the food chain for the series. The event started on a good note for Gaulden as he not only neat the seemingly-unstoppable Kenneth Phillips in the first round, but also picked up a $300 bounty for ending the Corvette driver’s winning streak at five events.

Gaulden went on to beat Steve Davis, Dean Jonas and Leslie Horne in the final round.

Over in B/Gas, T.J. York defeated Jerry Birch to take home the championship, winning five rounds of eliminations which included a bye run in the semi-final, Troy Lightner, Rick Varner and Gary Smith.

Charlie Lee took home the crown in C/Gas, stopping first-time finalist Cynthia Phillips. Lee also scored wins over Todd Oden and Jimmy Huff, after starting the day with a bye run.

Rounding out the action, Rick Cathcart won Super Stock after he defeated Tommy Luther in the final. Cathcart earned a semi-final bye run, after securing wins over Dean Hall and Zach Long.
