TOP FUEL RETURNS TO PERTH MOTORPLEX

Top Fuel will return to the Perth Motorplex Westernationals for the first time since 2014 with leading East Coast racers Phil Lamattina, and Peter Xiberras set to match race on February 29 and March 1.

The last time Top Fuel featured on the Westernationals calendar four-times ANDRA champ Darren Morgan defeated local racer Allan Dobson in the final.

Lamattina will go into the event favorite based on a history of strong results at the venue over the past decade while Xiberras will be making his debut at the Motorplex.

"We are making the 4960-mile return trip from our home base in Queensland to the Perth Motorplex and are out to win," Xiberras said. "Having never raced at Perth before we will be at a disadvantage early, but I have no doubt our team manager Tim Adams, and the crew will get up to speed quickly, and maybe we can even have a look at setting a new track record."

Joining Top Fuel will be the cream of local Doorslammer racers in the West Coast Doorslammer Challenge that has attracted a field of 11 entries.

Local hero John Zappia, the most decorated driver in Australian Doorslammer, will be out to avenge his loss to Daniel Gregorini at the 2019 Westernationals. The dark horse will be Kelvin Lyle still in shakedown mode with his new Camaro that replaces the car that was destroyed at Willowbank Raceway in January 2019. The team will fly in noted American tuner Jon Salemi for the meeting.

The meeting will also include round eight of the ANDRA Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series.
