2017 Marks the Twenty-Third Consecutive Running of Prestigious Event

Byron Dragway officials have announced the 23rd Annual World Power Wheel Standing Championships will return October 7-8, 2017.  The trademark event event features a wide variety of drag racing action that culminates with two rounds of the wheel standing competition on Sunday afternoon.

The two day event features qualifying and eliminations on Saturday with final eliminations on Sunday that culminate with two rounds of the Wheel Stand Contest on Sunday afternoon.  In addition to the wheel stand contest, competition features the Top Dog Shootout (1/8-mile Pro Mod), Midwest Index Shootout, Midwest Top Sportsman, and Midwest Drag Radial Association.

Ricky Kirkpatrick of Muncie, Indiana, won the 2016 World Power Wheel Standing Championship in his ’81 Chevrolet Malibu station wagon.  2015 Champion Jason Schubert finished runner-up.  A notable contestant who has confirmed they are returning in 2017 after a one-year hiatus is fan favorite Brian Ambrosini and his orange AMC Gremlin.
